The Alyn and Deeside Plaid Cymru candidate Maurice Jones today urged people from the north east of Wales to join him in supporting the Welsh rugby league "Celtic" Crusaders when they open their Super League season against the Leeds Rhinos at the Racecourse on 29 January .
Welcoming the decision he said
“This is great news for North East Wales, this is the only fixture that has had its venue confirmed so far and it is my understanding that the Racecourse is in the running to host the best-supported Lancastrian clubs Wigan, Warrington and St Helens”
“I believe that this season will show that the only viable location to base a Welsh Super League franchise is at the Racecourse. There is a strong following for Rugby League right across North Wales and we can get gates that can sustain a team. In Newport the probable location for the rest of this seasons games, they will be completing with the Newport Gwent Dragons rugby union franchise for fans hard earned cash,”
“Whether or not the Crusaders end up being based in North Wales is up to us the rugby lovers of North Wales, in the end its down to bums on seats and if we can all get down to the Racecourse on the 29th it will be a good start”
